ARRL Field Day 2017
HiDARG will be participating in the annual ARRL Field Day June 24th and June 25th. HiDARG has a long history of competing in the event and has, in the past, operated from venues in Bend, Sisters, and the Pine Mountain Observatory. This year we are excited to return to an old favorite, by permit from the US Forest Service, Upper Three Creeks sno-park south of Sisters. While we have enjoyed the success of our other venues, it is an informal competition and the Upper Three Creeks sno-park provides an accessible location for visitors, while yielding elevation and few electronic devices that interfere with radio communication.
The annual Field Day event brings amateur radio operators and clubs together nationwide. Always the last full weekend in June, this year Field Day will be from June 24th at noon until June 25th at noon. HiDARG members will begin preparing for the event on the evening of Friday the 23rd and be ready to start as soon as the competition opens the following day. While visitors are welcome anytime during the event, we will have demonstrations and club members on hand to answer questions on Saturday the 24th from 11AM to 7PM and again on Sunday from 8AM - 11AM. Visitors during these hours will have the opportunity to operate a radio and try to make a distant contact.
While the ARRL Field Day is an informal competition, it's also an opportunity for amateur operators to practice the quick setup of a communication post. Field Day is also a great opportunity for those involved to get together to share knowledge, assist one another in setup and improvement of their systems, as well as a time for everyone to work together and enjoy a great hobby.
HiDARG would love to see you at field day. Join us on Saturday the 24th anytime between 11AM and 7PM or Sunday the 25th between 8AM and 11AM. We will be located south of Sisters at the Upper Three Creeks sno-park. From Highway 20 in Sisters, turn south onto Elm St. Elm St will become Three Creeks road. Travel 11 miles and turn into the paved parking area at Upper Three Creeks sno-park. HiDARG will be easy to spot. Look for the long wire antennas high in the trees! Amateur radio operators can reach the event by radio on 146.520. The HiDARG call will be on the air, W7JVO.
